Herd-building: Labor unions, ethic special interest organizations, and political parties support immigration to boost the numbers of the groups of people they allegedly represent, thus increasing their prestige and political power.
Potential immigrant: Some of the proponents of open borders are themselves potential immigrants (or have close personal ties with potential immigrants) and their advocacy of open borders is predicated on self-interest.
