In June 2011, the state of Alabama in the United States passed a law called HB 56 aimed at directing and enforcing the use of state resources to identifying and reporting illegal immigrants to federal authorities for deportation. The law is similar to, but considered tougher than, the SB 1070 law passed by the state of Arizona in 2010.
